Fitness
Our Fitness Study Programme is as an ideal starting point for aspiring personal trainers or fitness instructors, as it focuses on essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in the field.
You will experience collaborative learning in a supportive classroom environment led by expert tutors and have access to our fully equipped gym and outdoor sports field at our Mattishall site. Your learning will be recorded on an easy-to-use e-portfolio platform.

YMCA Awards Level 2 Certificate in Instructing Fitness
This Study Programme will teach you essential aspects of fitness training such as planning gym-based exercises, providing client support, and instructing gym-based workouts. You will also gain valuable insights into anatomy and physiology for exercise, as well as health and safety practices within fitness settings.
Units include:
- Principles of exercise, fitness & health
- Work with clients to help them to adhere to exercise & physical activity
- Promote health, safety & welfare in active leisure & recreation
- Reflect on & develop on practice in providing exercise & physical activity
- Anatomy & physiology for exercise
- Plan & prepare gym-based exercise
- Instruct & supervise gym-based exercise.
The course will also offer:
- First Aid
- Functional Skills Maths (if required)
- Functional Skills English (if required)
Entry Requirements:
You must be between the ages of 16-18. There are no formal academic entry requirements; however, an initial selection interview is mandatory.
Progression Opportunities:
There are opportunities to continue your studies in further education such as an Apprenticeship or to gain full-time or part-time employment.
Costs:
If you are 16-18 there are no course fees payable, however you may have some costs associated with uniform, equipment etc.
